A Parent Guide for Surviving ‘Back to School’

After another epic Vancouver summer, it is time to switch gears and get back on schedule.  That’s right, it’s time to head back to school.  It is debatable on whether the school schedule is more difficult for kids or parents.  As your premier Kitsilano solvent free dry cleaners, we would like to offer this guide to parents to best manage the back to school grind.

Start Early

Check your calendar and see how many days you have left before the first day of school.  About mid-August you may want to think about establishing a schedule for the family.  Your family’s back to school schedule should include the following:

  • Start the bedtime and wake up schedule a few weeks before the first day, so everyone is fresh and ready to go on day one.
  • Reconfirm all after school activities and before and after school care and write them into your day planner.
  • If your kids are starting in a new school or will be taking public transit, walk/bus the route so they are familiar with it on the first day.
  • Get your back to school shopping done early, so you are not feeling stressed or short on time.
  • Post a family calendar on the fridge so that all members of your family have a visual of the activities, appointments and other deadlines of the week and month.

Lay the Groundwork

It is best to establish the new school year’s expectations and rules before the first day.  By laying the groundwork early, your kids will understand what the rules are.  This should prevent any type of power struggle or leave you open to ongoing negotiations.  Some rules or expectations that you may want to review or establish include:

  • The amount of screen time on school days and weekends.
  • School day and weekend bedtimes.
  • When and where homework will be done in the house.
  • How many and what type of activities they can chose from during the school year.

Take Advantage of Services

Once you have laid the groundwork and established a school routine and schedule, you are probably going to feel pressed for time.  Time management and organization are both keys to any successful school schedule.  When managing your time, look to take advantage of free services that are offered by companies.  At West Boulevard Cleaners, we understand time constraints, so we offer a free pick-up and delivery service.

Here’s the Deal:

Let us take care of your back to school cleaning needs and pick them up and drop them off right at your front door.  This way you will have more time to get your kids to soccer practice, piano lessons or whatever activities you are involved in.

These guidelines should help any parent get ready for that first day of school.  If you would like any other tips on how to prepare for back to school or would like to take advantage of our free pick up and delivery service, please contact us today.  We are proud to offer a wide range of solvent free cleaning services and look forward to seeing you soon.

Must Have Fashion Trends This Summer – Part 2

With the many fashion statements available for summer 2019, one blog just wasn’t enough to cover them all.  As your premier Kitsilano solvent free dry cleaners, here is the second instalment of 2019’s fashion trends that are sure to be seen in all the Vancouver hotspots this summer.

Tie-Dye

The 70’s are back in full effect.  Tie-Dye is making a big comeback and is featured on everything from shirts and shorts to long summer dresses and even on your favourite pair of Converse high tops.  Be sure to get in touch with your inner hippie and strut your stuff in the latest tie-dye fashions.

Blazers and Suits

Boiler suits originally designed as protective gear for manual labour are one of the hottest summer fashion trends of the year.  Pick your favourite summer colour and style and get out there and rock this utilitarian fashion trend.

Fringe and Patchwork

Does fringe ever really go out of style?  Well so far, the answer is no.  Fringe has been worked into almost all modern wear, so that you can show off the classic western detail in your favourite summer outfit.

Patchwork is no longer just a craft for your Grandma, it is also one of this summer’s hottest fashion trends.  As colourful as it is creative, patchwork consists of sewn pieces of material woven together to achieve an eclectic and eye-catching summer design.  Look for it on suits, pants, jackets and other summer favourites.  Be sure to be the focus of your next summer event by pairing a patchwork garment with other simple block coloured pieces and the latest summer accessories.

Hats

With all the forecasted sunshine and hot weather you can expect this summer, a fashionable hat is a must to keep you cool.  Bucket hats are sure to be the hottest (or coolest) 2019 trend of the summer.  Choose your favourite pattern or colour and be sure to wear this iconic fashion trend to look stylish around town.

Trucker Hats or just a plain baseball hat never seems to go out of style.  Choose your favourite team, fashion designer or colour and beat the heat this summer while looking good.

Accessories

Although not functional nor practical, the shrunken bag is the must have accessory of the summer.  This bag has just enough room to hold your lipstick and phone (if you are lucky) and is the true miniature of your favourite handbag.  So, if you choose style over function, then the shrunken bag is for you.  On a positive note, your shoulder won’t get sore from carrying it around all day.

Be seen this summer in all your favourite fashionable garments in and around Vancouver.  With so many trends to choose from, there is something for everyone in 2019.  Be sure to bring your summer garments to West Boulevard Cleaners for any alterations or cleaning.  Our eco-friendly dry-cleaning services will have your clothes looking new without leaving them coated in harmful chemicals.  Our knowledgeable and friendly staff are ready to assist you in any way necessary, so that you can get out and enjoy Vancouver’s summer.  We hope to see you soon.

Must Have Fashion Trends this Summer – Part 1

The best season of Vancouver is finally here – that’s right, it’s summertime.  With the past few weeks heating up, it is time to break out your summer clothes and get ready for what is sure to be a hot few months.  As your premier Kitsilano solvent-free dry cleaners, here are some of the can’t miss and must have fashion trends for 2019.

Colours

2019 summer colours are bold and bright and are dominated by fire tones.  Some of the more popular colours include:

  • Fiesta – a bright red-orange colour. Fiesta is the embodiment of passion and fire.
  • Jester Red – a deep and intense shade. Jester Red is seen as a symbol of urban elegance and chic.
  • Turmeric – this deep yellowish orange is sure to add a few notes of spice to any summer wardrobe.
  • Living Coral – this warm and bright colour will bring any outfit to life. Living Coral has a golden hue and is great for casual summer outfits.

Shorts

Bike shorts are 2019’s shorts to be seen in.  This unexpected summer fashion trend is calling itself athleisure and is all the rage with many of the top designers such as Chanel.  The best part about the bike short trend is they can be worn with anything.  One of the must have looks for summer 2019 is bike shorts and a blazer – both striking and chic at the same time.  Try it out for your next brunch date or just walking the trendy downtown streets of Vancouver.  Either way, you can’t miss.

Patterns

This year’s pattern for summer is animal print.  Let your animal instincts run wild and pick your favourite summer outfit in a wide range of different animal inspired patterns.  One of the more popular patterns is the loud leopard spots that is available in an array of bright and bold colours.  These can be found on a variety of summer garments including pants, coats, dresses and suits.

Another popular summer pattern is the tartan.  The tartan pattern is making huge waves in the fashion world of New York, Milan and Paris this year.  This pattern is not to be worn subtly and is available in some of the boldest summer colours such as reds, blues, greens and yellows.  If you are looking to make a summer fashion trend statement, then pick your favourite tartan patterned suit, jacket or pair of pants and get out there and turn some heads.

These are a few of the hottest fashion trends to hit Vancouver this summer.  Once you have chosen your favourites, bring your summer garments into West Boulevard Cleaners and let us keep them looking like new with our eco-friendly dry-cleaning services.  Our professional, knowledgeable and friendly staff will have your clothes looking new and ready for the next big day at the beach or on the trendy streets of our beautiful city.  We look forward to seeing you soon.

Green Tips for Summer Living

If the last few weeks are any indication of what is ahead in Vancouver, then this summer promises to be a blockbuster.  Before planning your summer and blocking off weekends for BBQ’s and other great events, take a minute to think about how you can reduce your carbon footprint.  As the premier eco-friendly Kitsilano solvent free dry cleaners, we would like to offer you the following ways to help you go green this summer.

Walk More, Drive Less

Gas prices will continue to increase this summer, so why not save money and enjoy that summer sunshine?  Choose an alternate transportation method such as walking, biking or public transit.  These methods will be healthier and are far more environmentally friendly.

Be Picky

Sunscreen protects us from the harmful rays of the sun and is a necessity if you are going to be out at the local pools or beaches.  However, you may want to consider or reconsider your sunscreen choice, as all products are not created equally.  Traditional sunscreens are full of chemicals that not only hurt reefs and the ocean, they may also be hurting you as well.  Choose a sunscreen that is natural and free of harmful chemicals.

Recycle

Take a little extra time to recycle this summer.  This needs to go further than just separating your household trash.  Instead, try to limit the garbage that you create on your outings, your picnics and your day at the beach.  Ways to greatly reduce the amount of trash that you create include:

  • Use a drinking bottle that you can refill instead of multiple bottles of water.
  • Choose a metal straw instead of a plastic one or no straw at all.
  • Bring your own cutlery instead of using plastic throwaways.
  • Choose paper plates or even better, bring your own instead of using plastic plates.

Local Support

By choosing local businesses and local produce, you are not only supporting local communities you are also drastically reducing your carbon footprint.  Try to support businesses that share the same vision as you do and support green business choices.  We at West Boulevard Cleaners only use eco-friendly cleaning products to keep your summer clothes looking like new all season long and are fully committed to keeping Vancouver and our province as green as possible.

In addition to a non-chemical approach to our solvent free dry cleaning, we also provide a free pickup and delivery service.  Our services are aimed at complete customer service and keeping our city beautiful for generations to come.  Stop by today to see how our services can benefit you.  We look forward to seeing you soon.

Tips to Beat High Gas Costs

I am sure that you have noticed the unbelievable increase in gas prices in Vancouver.  If these prices have left you scratching your head and checking your wallet, you are not alone.  As the premier eco-friendly dry cleaners in Kitsilano, we would like to offer you the following cost saving tips so you can save some money and beat these high gas costs.

Drive Less

The easiest way to save money at the pumps is to consume less fuel.  This may be easier said than done, but with Vancouver’s excellent transit system and a little pre-planning you may be surprised how easy it is to find a public transit route that works for you.  In addition to public transit, you can also curb your reliance on gas by:

  • Walking to your local grocery store, work or other places where you may have used your car.
  • Find alternate methods of transportation such as a bicycle – there are many convenient and excellent bike lanes that connect the entire city.
  • Completing a wide range of errands at one time. Instead of several different trips to your grocery store, hardware store etc., try to establish a route that will burn the least amount of fuel and a schedule that will let you complete many of these tasks in sequence.

Carpool

Carpooling can be an effective way to save money at the pumps and still give you the convenience of your car. Another bonus of carpooling is that you can use the much faster HOV lanes that exist.  Try to find a neighbour or work colleague that is interested and understands the advantages of carpooling.  Not only will you save money, you may make a new friend and find that those long commutes to work are not only faster but a lot friendlier.

Pickup and Delivery Services

Another great way to save money is to take full advantage of company services.  At West Coast Boulevard Cleaners, we offer a free pick-up and delivery service that will not only help you save gas and money, it will also save you time.  We offer a free, downloadable app to help you schedule at your convenience pick-up and drop off times.

Our eco-friendly business approach goes far beyond just our cleaning services.  Our green philosophy extends throughout our entire business model and our free pickup and delivery service is another part of this ideology.  Like you, we are striving to reduce our carbon footprint and do what is best for our environment and our beautiful city at the same time.  Make sure to take full advantage of this free and reliable service.

Call or stop by today to see how you can benefit from our eco-friendly cleaning products.  Do not forget to inquire about our free pick-up and delivery service and schedule your cleaning services today.  We look forward to seeing you soon.
